Welcome!

Greetings!

My name is Antonio Feliciano and I am very excited to be serving as your 2008-2009 SHPE president. The new exec board and I are already hard at work to make this an amazing year, but first, on behalf of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers at Northwestern University, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you.

Our mission is to promote the advancement of all ethnicities, majors, and backgrounds in education, employment, and society through academic workshops, community service, and inter-student group cooperation. This year you’ll find that we have events planned in each of these categories that are especially designed to engage, enrich, and enhance pride in our organization.

This Spring quarter , we were able to kick off a food fund-raiser in collaboration with the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, to raise money for future events. We also used this opportunity to introduce the tech community to some delicious Hispanic desserts and I am happy to say the event was a success.

This spring will also see the launching of our quarterly newsletter! These newsletters will highlight the recent happenings and upcoming events and projects that we have planned for you. The executive members in charge of their specific committees and some general members wrote the articles included in the Spring Issue. As you will see, we have many collaborations and events planned for everyone, from water dunking teachers to playing family feud with a sorority on campus! Be sure to read the articles provided to get a sampling of the events we are doing at Northwestern and those you may have missed! I hope you enjoy this website and look forward to your ideas and feedback.

I would now like to take the time to commend all those on the exec-board this year for being so enthusiastic and hardworking. We are making many improvements and I am positive we are headed in the right direction.

A note to alums: I would like to ask for your support in our efforts to establish closer relationships with you. Please contact me if you would be interested in holding a workshop through your respective companies, or even just coming in to have lunch with our members or look over resumes for an afternoon ! We'd love to have you! We would gratefully appreciate any help and advice you have for us.

In closing, as President, I would like to acknowledge everyone who has helped shape SHPE into the excellent organization that it is now and was then. Through you, we are able to do the things that really make a difference in our lives and the community around us.

Thanks for your support and remember this is our SHPE,

Antonio Feliciano
